- Differently Abled People
Earthquake resulted in large-scale disability. They have generally received initial medical treatment. Surgeries and amputations were conducted in temporary medical posts and the then existing hospitals. Certain reports indicate that amputations were conducted in
unnecessary cases as well. Follow-up treatment for those who sustained fractures and surgeries has failed, or for those who developed complications such as infections of the bone are limited. There is a need to promote community-based rehabilitation. The future looks uncertain for the people with special needs ('disabled'), especially the paraplegics and amputees.
