- Indian People's Tribunal
The Indian People's Tribunal (IPT) visited Gujarat in August. IPT is an independent forum of the retired judges of the High Courts and the Supreme Court. Specialists working on critical disaster management issues were part of the panel. The team listened to the survivors, government officials, media people, humanitarian and development agencies and others through a series of public hearings. Primary findings point out a system failure in responding to the survivors needs, discrimination in relief distribution and lack of co-ordination. IPT demands that urgent steps need to be taken to reduce people's sufferings.
