National and local media feverishly covered the disaster during the rescue and relief phases. Still, during the rehabilitation phase, people often did not know what the Government rehabilitation schemes were and what steps they had to take to benefit from such schemes. Knowledge about disaster management measures was also found lacking among many village communities. Media has to place more emphasise on their educative role. Media can play an important role in informing and empowering the survivors. The challenge is make it happen.
